Adopted January 18, 2008
Two days before a bank foreclosure we were contacted by the property caretaker about a famiy of GSD's left inside this very large auction barn. The mom had been bred on purpose for sale of the puppies. Two of the pups sold when they were young, the remaining 4 were left to this fate. Mom at one time had been a loved house dog as she adapted readily to home life again. The puppies have known no one but the caretaker who would bring them food when he could, and their mommy. Their home was a barn area about the size of a football field with concrete, dust, and dirt. There was at least every bit if feces over their entire lifetime in that area, some shoveled into piles. The size of the area was their saving grace to be clean. They had no medical care in their life, no socialization, and no training or human love. Their dad apparently went with the spouse after a divorce. Mom and the pups were banished to the warehouse.
Sweet Pea is the sweetest of the bunch. She is very scared and still working (but improving rapidly) on her leash walking. She readily accepts pets and cuddles and does really well with children. She has been fine around the other animals. She just needs a patient, quiet, gentle, loving home that can introduce her to the kinder, more loving side of humans. We have no doubt she will return your love ten fold once she learns trust and safety. While she far from being complete"rehabilitated", she is eating well, spayed, clean, and would probably flourish better in her very own home now, rather than have the shared attentions of many other dogs.
