Two days before a bank foreclosure we were contacted by the property caretaker about a famiy of GSD's left inside this very large auction barn. The mom had been bred on purpose for sale of the puppies. Two of the pups sold when they were young, the remaining 4 were left to this fate. Mom at one time had been a loved house dog as she adapted readily to home life again. The puppies have known no one but the caretaker who would bring them food when he could, and their mommy. Their home was a barn area about the size of a football field with concrete, dust, and dirt. There was at least every bit if feces over their entire lifetime in that area, some shoveled into piles. The size of the area was their saving grace to be clean. They had no medical care in their life, no socialization, and no training or human love. Their dad apparently went with the spouse after a divorce. Mom and the pups were banished to the warehouse.

Jack is our biggest challenge. He is so handsome and all of these dogs have been completely terrified, but have not shown any outwardly aggressive reactions to our attempts to care for them. Because of that we hold out hope that they will have the opportunity to trust and love humans at some point. Poor Jack has been so scared, we finally are usuing anti-anxiety medication to try to relieve his fear enough to see that things can be okay. Because of hormonal complications at 1 year of age, we did go ahead and neuter him to try to curb any future hormonal issues and behaviors and relieve those extra hormones. He went through the surgery and veterinary care okay, but was just so incredibly scared whe he woke up, we took him home right away. We hope he will slowly recover, but we are taking our time with this special bundle of fluff. Special snacks and letting him take his time to trust, in addition to anti-anxiety medication will allow this poor kid have a second chance at life. His medication costs about $2-3 a day as we have had to adjust his dose. If this medication doesn't help, we will have to move to a different type of medicine to try to find him relief. Our hope is that the medication will clear his head and heart and allow him to be trained and reconditioned. Then he will be able to be weaned off the medication when he gains confidence. That is our hope.
